Algebraic Number Theory I

Inhaltsangabe / Literatur / empfohlene Vorkenntnisse
This course gives an introduction to algebraic number theory. Together with the course on Algebraic
Geometry this course can serve as a basis for further specialization in the area of arithmetic
geometry. We treat number fields, rings of algebraic integers, Dedekind domains, Minkowski's lattice
point theory, finiteness of class numbers, Dirichlet's unit theorem, ramification theory, local
fields, valuations, and the product formula.

Please register via LSF before the end of the summer term (so that the number of teaching assistants
can be determined).  You can register via GRIPS for the exercise classes in the first week of the
teaching period. Registration for the exams is done via FLEXNOW.

Prüfungsbestandteile
Written examination. Studienleistungen are a requirement to be admitted to the written examination.

Termine und Dauer von Prüfung und erster Wiederholungsprüfung
Examination type: Two hour written examination on Wednesday, February 15th 2017. The written
examination can be repeated on Wednesday March 29th 2017. Time and place will be announced later.

By individual agreement

You can register for the Studienleistungen and the written examination on February 15th 2017 via
FlexNow from January 9th until February 9th 2017. If you have been ill or you have failed the exam
on February 15th, you can register for the written examination on March 29th 2017 via FlexNow from
February 1st until March 22nd 2017.
